This is a fabulous example of early 19th century treen. This decorative carved wood figure of a recumbent dog was produced here in England during the 19th century circa 1830. This wonderfully tactile figure is constructed from oak and is modeled as a recumbent dog. This faithful dog's mouth is resting open in order to hold one's trade card or calling card. This handsome dog was likely produced for a country house or country lodge.
