This delightful Art Deco period watercolor and gouache painting of a cat is by the British artist Marjorie Kingston Walker (b 1891 – d 1968). This beautiful portrait features a large tabby cat with the most wonderful green eyes. The painting is signed by the artist bottom left ‘M Kingston Walker’ and is housed in its original 1920s mount behind its original old glass and in its original Art Deco unopened frame.
This is a charming and unique painting, likely of her family cat. This is the perfect item for anyone with a passion for all things Art Deco or who like us loves cats.
Marjorie was not a prolific artist, only a few examples of her work are known. Marjorie Kingston Walker’s parents were John George Walker and Catharine Jane Walker. She spent her childhood living with her family at number 13 Haldane Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. She was later awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal for her service as a Nurse in the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service, Voluntary Aid Detachment during the First World War.
