This is a superbly decorative pair of finest quality early 19th century miniature brass picture frames, that are perhaps small enough for a special dolls house. These are two of the nicest antique brass frames that we have owned. They are rare and they are craftsman made, their Georgian quality far exceeding later Victorian examples. This sweet pair are the perfect item if you have a passion for rare and unusual frames. We absolutely guarantee that you will be thrilled with them.

The Georgian brass frames contain stipple engravings of the daughters of King George III, King of Great Britain and Ireland
The engravings date to the early 19th century, to the year 1827. They are book plates from A Biographical Memoir of Frederick, Duke of Albany by John Watkins, 1827. The portraits were engraved by Henry Meyer and published by Fisher, Son and Co. Caxton, London, April, 1827.

Princess Elizabeth of the United Kingdom (b 22 May 1770 – d 10 January 1840) was the 7th child and 3rd daughter of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Princess Sophia of the United Kingdom (Sophia Matilda; b 3 November 1777 – d 27 May 1848) was the 12th child and 5th daughter of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Sophia is perhaps best known for the rumours surrounding a supposed illegitimate child to which she gave birth as a young woman.

The engravings are housed under old convex glass in their original very substantial molded brass frames with their original marbled backing paper and metal top hangers. The frames really are of an excellent quality and are perfect for display in a dolls house or as part of your English country style interior.

Measuring: Frame diameter 3 inch (7.5 cm). Aperture diameter 1 7/8 inch (5 cm).

Condition: Please excuse any reflection from the domed glass. These frames are solid and ready to hang- we have not opened them. The inner stipple engravings are showing their vast age. Sophia has a minor stain at 9 o’ clock and a minor tear to the paper at 12 o’ clock. Elizabeth has a horizontal area of staining, easily seen via our images.
