This wonderful watercolor on card portrait of a young girl dates to the mid 19th century, circa 1840. The watercolor painting is of an excellent quality, we just adore the blue tinted background, her gold necklace, harlequin socks and the reflection of light on her shiny shoes. This is such a detailed painting; the artist was clearly very talented and conveyed perfectly the charm and innocence of this sweet child. There is a partial signature bottom right corner (we have not opened this portrait). This gorgeous painting is housed behind glass in its original frame with the most beautiful gilt slip. This is a quality piece housed in a decorative frame that is ready for display....we guarantee that you will adore her.
The backing board has several inscriptions from a previous owner; some are a little hard to read. Several key sections of information are easy to read such as the reference to ‘Perchtoldsdorf’ which is a market town in the Mödling district, in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. ‘Aquarell von Riede’ translates to ‘Watercolor from Riede.’ Riede is a municipality in the district of Verden, in Lower Saxony, Germany. And finally reference is made to ‘Friedrich Passini’, the painting was purchased by us as being from the Passini family by decent.
