An endearing little early Victorian needlework of micro petitpoint wrought in superb colored silks upon a gauze ground. This miniature needlepoint was wrought by a talented needelworker as the shading and attention to detail are to be marveled at. We see an exotic macaw parrot resting upon a bough of English pink and yellow roses; obviously inspired by The Duchess of Kent's parrot called Lory, painted by Sir Edwin Landseer along with Queen Victoria's pets Hector, Nero and Dash in 1838. Housed within a miniature 19th century period swept gilt frame with gorgeous composition floral swags to the corners and set behind glass.

Size: 5.75" (14.5 cm) by 5" (13 cm) by 0.75" (2.5 cm). Sight 4 3/8" (11 cm) by 3.5" (9.5 cm)

Condition: There is a tiny hole in the silk gauze ground, bottom left corner. There is some age spotting to the card under the gauze canvas ground. The gilt frame has some old gilt touch ups and an old staple reinforcement can be seen under the backing paper to one corner.

A sweet and charming addition to your home, we all have a small space waiting to display such a feathered gem.....
