A very decorative and romantic antique Art Nouveau silver letter clip from the late 19th century/ early 20th century, circa 1900 to 1910. Having pretty scrolling border, six cabochon turquoise colored faux turquoise? stones and teeny female French style portrait miniature under glass. The sprung hinges work so smoothly, a sign of a good quality maker; we adore the little love heart opening to the reverse. Marked Sterling with an arm and hammer maker's mark and number 191. This is not a European maker, we believe it most likely to be American silver, possibly Tift and Whiting later Whiting manufacturing Co.
Size:1.75" (4.5 cm) tall by just under 1.5" (3.5 cm) wide.
Condition: Some of the stones are slightly discolored through age. Some silver surface scratching around the stones at 10 and 12 o'clock. A small chip to the portrait miniature edge at 7 o'clock, hard to see under the glass, mentioned for accuracy.
