A divine and very pretty little sewing etui that was made in France during the 1820 to 1840 period. This small etui has its original and very sough after white lacquer finish with gorgeous cut steel adornments. One opens the set by the push button opener to reveal the original red watermark taffeta lined lid with original red plush surround. The base interior retaining its gilt paper and mirror lined compartments. This little beauty has even retained its central, lift out taffeta section complete with original Georgian cut steel folding knife, scissors, bodkin and stiletto!! Since 1820 subsequent owners have added to this set; you can see that it is full of gorgeous bits and bobs including mop buttons, two tiny wood cotton reels, a black toleware double bobbin, a brass thimble, a Hudsons Soap thimble, a gilt waxer, The Flora Macdonald Crewel Needle packet Size 3/7, Brown Davis & Co, Mandarin silk bone shaped card holder, a celluloid silk winder and a tiny packet of THE TINIEST ever Mappins No 12 steel sewing needles (we had to use our jewellers loupe to find the needle's eye as they look like pins!!

Size: A small 5.5" (14 cm) by 3.25" (8 cm) by 1.25" (3.5 cm)

Condition: Good, untouched and perfectly sound. Normal signs of wear consistent with its age - in the form of dust trapped in the cut steel adornments, a small watermark to the lid bottom right corner and minor nibbles to the very corners of the base. The underside original yellow base paper a little torn. The push button opener can be a little stiff to open at times, not always but closes beautifully with a satisfying snap.

This is a fine French sewing etui offered in untouched, untampered with condition. Opening the lid is like walking out of a time machine as one could almost pick up where the last Victorian owner put down.
