An attractive and imposing desk top folio case from the mid 19th century. This is one of the best that we have been lucky enough to retail. The brown leather frame is beautifully embossed with gilt tooling. The needlepoint front and back panels worked on fine silk wrapped gauze that is worked in very fine petit point/tent stitch; we see a mountain landscape scene with two small children feeding the swans, the other panel showing a glorious floral arrangement. The woolwork colors just sing and are so very appealing. To the interior we see the original brown silk ribbon ties and the original cream silk taffeta interior complete with envelope pouch to one side and lattice ribbon notice board to the other side. Please note that ephemera shown inside the folio are purely for display ideas and are not included with the sale.
Size: A large 12.5" by 10.25" (32 cm by 26 cm)
Condition: Good and strong and still very usable if wished. Some minor wear to the leather edges, we have not polished this item. Some age foxing to the silk gauze mesh and one small 1/8" circular stain bottom left to the children scene.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a pretty folio from this mid 19th century period. It is perfect for holding your letters, artwork or literature. It would look stunning on your antique desk, or the perfect original prop for a film company.
