A gorgeous survivor from the very early 19th century, we adore the quality of workmanship, elegant shape and the endearing love heart shaped terminal. This combination cut steel netting/ sewing clamp also contains a handy velvet covered emery pincushion in the rectangular steel trough. The small hook is to hold one's netting foundation loop. This is an elegant and substantial Georgian sewing tool not to be mistaken for the later mass produced Victorian metal hemming clamp. Our steel example would have been manufactured by one of the toy steel manufacturers in the Sheffield, Wolverhampton or Birmingham area of England. For a similar Georgian example please see page 70, plate 69 in Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries by Nerylla Taunton.
Size: Height, adjustable from 5.25" (13.5 cm) closed, to 6.5" (16.5 cm) fully extended. Weight 2.7 oz.
Condition: Good working order. The original crimson velvet pincushion does show much wear to the velvet pile. The steel has some age dulling to the steel trough.
