We are tremendously excited to offer this exceptional Regency era toy, doll size Spode porcelain cup and saucer. This circa 1816, George III period porcelain cup and saucer is of teeny miniature proportions; imagine the skill required to manufacture on such a tiny scale!! Both pieces have excellent translucency and a good ring sound to the porcelain when lightly tapped. This is a piece of the highest quality and is decorated in the sought after pattern 2478, the cup and saucer most likely commissioned by a wealthy family for their adored child. The lavish pattern features extensive gilt decoration with hand painted floral sprays over a deep cobalt blue ground, with a plain white interior to the cup. This is an extremely rare item; we have not seen a toy miniature example cup and saucer in this pattern. Both pieces are clearly marked to the base with iron red script ‘Spode 2478’.
This is the perfect item for anyone who collects rare early English porcelain, as it will make a luxury addition to a doll house or perhaps a luxury accessory for a VERY special doll.
Measuring: Cup width 1 5/8 inch (4 cm) by height 7/8 inch (2.5 cm). Saucer diameter 1 7/8 inch (4.8 cm).
Condition: Not quite perfect after 201 years but pretty good. Some gilding wear to the base of the saucer, the gilding has worn away to the rim of the saucer, also a minor very old and perfectly stable hairline to the saucer (please study our close up images).
