We are delighted to offer this most ornate pair of early Victorian era face screen handles. The handles date to the early 19th century, circa 1830 to 1840. The handles are hand turned from wood and feature extensive rich gilt decoration with a hand painted exotic song birds. This matching pair have never been used; they are complete with their original tag and string ties.
Face screens were popular during the early 19th century to shade a ladies face from the heat of the fire. Retailed in pairs they were constructed from the most decorative embossed paper, silk or papier mache.
Measuring: Width 8 7/8 inch (22.5 cm) by depth 0.5 inch (1.5 cm).
Condition: Very good.
We adore this pair of handles, they are the nicest examples we have seen, this is a unique opportunity to own such a pair.
