A scarce, all original 19th century little Russian Easter Egg, similar to examples produced by the Lukutin factory. This is not a modern reproduction, this is a genuine antique wood Easter egg from circa 1870.
The giving of hand decorated wooden and Lacquered Easter eggs has long been a tradition in Russia for many centuries.
Our little egg is hand painted and Lacquered in red with two different scenes hand painted to the front and reverse. To the front we see an oval vignette depicting The Ascension or Resurrection of Christ. The detailing is beautiful; individual features, folds to the cloth. Gilded highlights were also applied. To the sides are little gilt stars and to the reverse two gilded tablets with the Ten Commandments, a gilt chalice and a gilt bible. To the top and bottom are suspension holes thread with a more modern gilt tassel and gilt glitter ribbon.
This antique delight is ready to hang.
Size: egg size 2 1/8" tall. When suspended from ribbon and including tassel "8 (20 cm)
Condition. Please excuse the reflection from our studio lighting. This is a genuine 150 year old example and so there will be signs of age and usage. The gilt highlights to the front have dulled. There is some very old flaked surface paint seen to the front scene. There is a fine vertical hairline between 12 and six o'clock front and back but this is where the wood had dried and is perfectly sound and stable - too fine to pick up on camera but mentioned for accuracy.
