A very attractive sewing pin cushion from the start of Queen Victoria's reign. This vibrant early Berlin woolwork example has a wonderful geometric design worked in shades of blue and red wool interspersed by a mustard yellow silk ground. The finishing touch is the addition of sparkling cut steel facetted beads. Having its original red wool cloth reverse. The silk twist braid edging is a later addition. The gold bullion tassels to each corner are of the period but look again as if they were added when the braid was added. The original find sand emery contents remain.
Size: 5.5" by 5" by 2"
Condition: Good and sound. Minor rusting to some steel beads. Minor insect damage to wool cloth backing. Silk cord braiding a more recent addition.
This would make a fine addition to your antique sewing or folk art collection. We see it displayed ona dresser or shelf, a little show stopper!!
