This delightful complete set of six silver buttons date to the late 19th century, circa 1890. Each of the six buttons depicts Diana the huntress archer complete with a bow in hand and two Greyhounds and arrow quiver at her feet. In Roman mythology Diana was the goddess of the hunt, the moon and nature. She had the power to communicate and control animals.
The buttons were produced by the silversmith Thomas White (T.W), London. They are each hallmarked with his importers mark ‘T.W’, Lion passant London standard (92.5%) silver mark and the ‘F’ mark for 'foreign' imported silver. Each having a strong silver button loop to its rear. They are housed in their original green push clasp case with silk/ velvet lining.
Measuring: Case diameter 3 inch (7.5 cm). Button diameter 0.75 inch (1.8 cm).
Condition: Uncleaned with minor wear to the case, unfortunately the push clasp does not always stay closed. Minor age rubbing to the features on Diana's face.
A gorgeous complete set which will make a splendid gift for a button collector or dog owner.
