A small and beautiful portable reliquary from the first quarter of the 19th century. This portable reliquary was all hand made by nuns in France circa 1800 to 1820 and contains not only gilt rolled paper quilled paper flowers but also a pressed paper image of a saint to the center and to each corner the remains of saint's. All housed within an oval crimson silk covered frame with hand cut glass and metal wrapped silk thread braiding. This is a very special little object for those of us who adore early 19th century devotional antiques (later 19th century reliquaries tend to be more garish).
Size:3.5 inch by 2.5 inch by 0.75"
Condition: Very good but this item is nearly 200 years old and has centuries of dust and debris trapped under the old glass. We can see the remains of two relics with printed titles of Saint Honore and St Fidelis, the other two we think are missing and are a little undecipherable as the names are hand written.
