This opulent, French Empire style gilt basket was produced in France during the early 20th century, circa 1910 to 1920. The ornate Empire style basket displays wonderful decorative detailing and is typical of this style's revival during decadent first quarter of the century; we particularly like the gilt draped swags which surround the basket. The interior of the basket features a delightful hand painted silk butterfly base signed by ‘Petit’ which is enclosed top and bottom behind glass. This is a decorative item that will display excellently in any boudoir.
Measuring: Diameter 4 1/8 inch (10.25 cm). Height 5 1/8 inch (13 cm).
Condition: The gilding is bright and crisp with minor signs of verdigris as one would hope to find. There is a minor old watermark to the edge of the silk lining seen in our many images.
