This decorative watercolor and gouache study of a long haired Jack Russell/Fox Terrier dog dates to the early 20th century, circa 1910-1920. The portrait has some wonderful details, and we love the way the artist has captured the very soulful yet intent look to the dog’s eyes. The painting is signed ‘G. Louis Grover’ and is housed under a gilt mat, under glass within a decorative gilt frame. G Louis Grosvenor was active in the early 20th century circa 1910 – 1920.
Measuring: Frame width 9.25 inch (23.5 cm) by height 10.5 inch (27 cm). Frame depth 1.75 inch (4.5 cm). Aperture width 5.75 inch (14 cm) by height 7 inch (17.5 cm).
Condition: Some natural age crazing to the Gum Arabic highlighted areas. There are some minor gilt touch ups to the corners of the frame that are barely visible. There is a small gilt touch up to the right corner of the gilt slip.
This is a gorgeous little portrait of a four legged friend from the first quarter of the 20th century that is just perfect for your Edwardian or Art Deco inspired interior.
