This original watercolor was painted by the 20th century American artist Vernon. E. ‘Copy’ Berg III (b 10th July 1951 – d 27th January 1999). Copy Berg was an U.S Navy Graduate and an Artist and Gay rights activist, his work rarely is rarely available. He was the first Naval Academy alumni to actively fight the policies against homosexuality in the services; he himself was discharged from the Navy for homosexuality. There is much material written about Copy Berg, we have included a few pieces in the description, the best account of his work is available online via the New York Public Library, Manuscripts and Archives Division where 161 boxes of Copy Berg’s papers, correspondences, artworks and photographs are held.
After departing the U.S Navy, he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he earned a master’s degree in design from the Pratt Institute where he became a rising star in the New York arts scene and a Gay rights activist. During the mid-1990s Berg's pictures were exhibited at several galleries in the New York area. A retrospective show of artwork from all periods of his career was mounted in 1998 at the Robeson Center Art Gallery of Rutgers University. He died of AIDS in Manhattan on Wednesday 27th 1999.
The watercolor is signed and dated by the artist ‘Copy Berg 1.8.87'. The painting is housed behind glass in its original mount and decorative frame.

The watercolor is in good condition. The painting sits within its original 1980s mount and frame. There are some minor surface chips to the outer edges of the frame.
