This wonderful, tiny bentwood storage box was produced in Scandinavia in the very early 19th century, circa 1800-1810, please do not mistake this for a later version. It is a little gem because as well as its appealing small-scale and original paint traces, it feels absolutely glorious to the touch. The lid features hand punched circular decoration with traces of the original red and green paint to the sides. Having retained the original split birch root stringing, pine interior and finger laps. Owner's initials carved into the base. This is a real joy to handle, it is so very tactile.
This is the perfect item for a folk art inspired interior. Please see it displayed alongside our other bentwood box in the final image, each sold separately.
Measuring: A very small Width 4 1/8 inch (10.5 cm) by height 2 1/8 inch (5.5 cm). Depth 3 1/8 inch (8 cm).
The item is in good condition with a superb, all original unwaxed dry patination. There is some minor wear from its vast age and a few small insect holes to the pine interior.
