This impressive graphite and pencil drawing on paper is by the talented British artist Eric Scott (born 1945-died 2005), brother of the late Colin Scott. Collectors of the late Eric Scott's work included Paul McCartney and British Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Eric Scott’s friend Dave Stewart of the UK pop group the Eurythmics bought many of his works and in 1985 commissioned Scott to paint the cover for their upcoming album ‘Revenge’. Eric Scott also created the animation for the Eurhythmics' award winning album ‘Shame’.
The significance of the subject matter is that it was the year that the movie Paper Moon was released in cinemas and the year that Pablo Picasso died.
This surreal artwork depicts one of the most influential artists of the 20th century Pablo Picasso (b 1881 – d 1973) and the cast of the 1973 American film Paper Moon. Paper Moon was directed by Peter Bogdanovich and was shot in black and white; it was set in Kansas and Missouri during the Great Depression. It stars the father and daughter cast of Ryan O’ Neal and Tatum O’ Neal as the protagonists Moze and Addie.
Eric Scott’s artwork almost always features subjects that are entirely out of context.
The drawing is signed by the artist and is housed behind glass in a contemporary metal frame. This is a wonderful artwork with a desirable subject matter. Please excuse the reflection from our studio lights.
