This richly decorated, ornate inkwell was produced during the Napoleon III era circa 1870. The exterior of this genuine antique 19th century inkwell features a luxurious ormolu mount depicting a pair of Greek mythological Hippocamp horses. The large domed cap features the most wonderful raised scene of an enterprising neoclassical figure hand carving a classical bust. Offered in this rare GREEN colorway with the Hippocamp detailing; this makes for a splendid addition to your other opulent desktop accessories. A genuine antique French inkwell that is waiting for a new home.
Measuring: Width 2.75 inch (7 cm). Height 3.5 inch (9 cm). Depth 2.75 inch (7 cm).
Condition: The inkwell is in sound condition for its age, with minor surface wear which is to be expected on a piece of this age. A very small dint to the ormolu cap seen in image. The gilt ormolu base is detachable. This base does have very old and tiny solder reinforcements to each outer corner, seen in images.. There is some minor wear to the glass rounded shoulders, and a small surface level only crack to the interior of the inkwell, it is shallow and does not travel through the body of the glass, cannot pick this up on camera. The inkwell is missing its removal glass liner. Please excuse any reflection from our studio lights.
