This wonderful pair of portrait silhouettes of two young siblings date to the 19th century, circa 1835. The female sitter is Robina Augusta Hick, nee Andrew who was born in Manchester in 1821 and died on the 8th of December 1888. Robina married Benjamin Hick on the 3rd August 1843 in Harpurhey, Christ Church, Lancashire, England. Benjamin was an Engineer and was born circa 1818 and died on the 20th November 1845. The male sitter is Robina’s brother Frederick Andrew (born abt 1831 died 1890).
The silhouettes are painted on paper and feature grey watercolor highlights and fine bronzing to their hair with gum Arabic detailing to their clothes. We just adore Robina's short fashionable hairstyle with its bronze highlights and her red coral beaded necklace is sooo sweet. Both silhouettes are housed under lovely old wavy glass with some fantastic air bubbles and set within their original ribbed stained wood frames.
Measuring: Frame width 4 inch (10 cm) by height 5 inch (12.5 cm). Frame depth 3/8 inch (1 cm). Aperture width 2 5/8 inch (6.7 cm) by height 3 5/8 inch (9.5 cm).
Condition: Both of the silhouettes are in good condition. The frames are in good condition with some minor surface wear as one would expect after nearly 200 years.
