This is a scarce opportunity to own a pair of very early 19th century children's shoes from the reign of George III, 1800 to 1820 period. These ancient square toe shoes are very worn and showing their 200 years of age but such early infant examples have rarely survived, being passed down to other family members or servants children to wear...we simply could not resist them!! They would make a wonderful and very fine addition to a a special antique doll's wardrobe.

Made from expensive bronze and teal colored woven silk brocade with a floral rose design these shoes were purchased for a wealthy child. There silk brocade so indicative of the Georgian's love for color. Having silk brocade uppers with square and domed toe and ankle securing straps with replacement mother of pearl buttons, the originals would have been gilt metal buttons. These shoes/ slippers have brown leather straight slap soles (with no left or right). The leather soles are gloriously tactile with their smooth, shiny worn surface. Punched ring stamps can be seen at the toe and heel. With butted back seam and slanting side seam. The vamp having a square throat. These tiny shoes are lined with cream linen with a stiffener concealed within each heel.

Size: length 3.75" (9.5 cm), sole width 1 6/16" (3.5 cm) at their widest, height 1.25" (3 cm). Never to be worn, these are for careful display only.

Condition: Worn condition but perfect for display. As mentioned and seen from our many images these shoes have been worn by an infant or several successive children from the same family, please study our many images, use the ZOOM mode and feel free to request more. Points to note - The original ribbon braiding that edges all of the straps and shoe edges has disintegrated away. There is extensive signs of wear to the silk brocade on each toe and each ankle; so much so that the warp and weft threads are exposed. The ankle strap buttons have been later replaced. The natural patina to the leather soles is to die for.
