A delectable Georgian reticulated gaming dish from the last quarter of the 18th century.
This tray would have originally been part of a five tray set including four small and one large: a small for each player and the larger being to hold the kitty/ collected coinage. Such sets were used during the many popular card games such as Quadrille...yes, the Georgians LOVED gambling - Georgian ladies in particular liked to gamble..
This exquisite little treasures is deliciously attractive which indicates its ownership by a female. The enamel over copper decoration is glorious with the Rococo Cupids and Girl in a Swing scene with the sentiment " L'AMOUR FAIT PASSER LE TEMPS" - "LOVE MAKES TIME PASS". If you adore antique enamel goodies, please see its smaller partner sold separately item TA11664
Size: 5.5" by 4" by 1"
Condition: The lattice/ reticulated sides have suffered much wear and damage to the enamel as is so common with these trays. There has been much old restoration to the latticework both to the interior white enamel and gilding and exterior pink enamel, please study our many images. This restoration looks fine from a distance when on display but upon scrutiny appears to be non professional. The interior of the tray where the main decoration appears in is very good condition having just a couple of faint hairlines, a surface scratch between the clouds, a slight rough area to her skirt and a repaired chip at 5 o'clock.
This really is a rare little item that will look as pretty as a picture in your boudoir.
