This beautifully decorative small red leather box dates to the early 19th century, circa 1820 and due to its small dimensions was originally made as a sewing box for a child. The exterior of this box features wonderful naturalistic brass details such as the handsome escutcheon plate surrounding the keyhole and the four lion claw and ball feet. We particularly like the unusual handle to the lid which depicts a small dog. The interior features a plush silk lining, matching pincushion and several compartments for storing sewing accessories. This is a very attractive box with an all original color and patina. You will be spoiled for display opportunities... see our last image for some Georgian inspiration
