Antique Georgian Red Leather Sewing Box Early 19th Century England Circa 1820
A delightful little sewing box from the first quarter of the 19th century. This circa 1820 period box is clad in gorgeous red leather with all of its original brass fittings and gilt brass soldier motif to the lid. Upon opening the original printed silk engraving is revealed to the inside of the lid. Complete with original turquoise blue lined paper, this is a little gem.
Size: 5 7/8" (15 cm) by 2.25" ( 6 cm) by 3.5" (9 cm)
Condition: This item is nearly 200 years old and so does show signs of age and usage to the leather. The horse's tail is missing from the gilt metal soldier on horseback but it has been this way for a long time. The silk lid lining has a split above the angle's head. Several small splits just beneath the putto looking through the telescope. The original compartment dividers are missing.
