This marvelous antique painting depicts a young, debonair English gentleman from the start of the 19th century, circa 1810. The Brutus swept forward hair and side burns, white linen folded stock (neck tie) and deep collared frock coat all affirm the 1810 date. This small oil on canvas has been laid on solid wood backing a very, very long time ago allowing it to now display on any shelf or bookcase.
Measuring: Width 6.75 inch (17 cm) by height 8 1/8 inch (20 cm). Depth 3/8 inch (1 cm). Last image taken in English Winter's daylight.
Condition: There is some old darkening to the old over varnish. Some natural crazing to the old paint, minor knocks to the canvas, surface marks and general dulling to the varnish near the outer edges. However, in our opinion this absolutely adds to his charm and character as the look and patina is to die for.
A wonderful little Jane Austen era portrait that is sure to charm......we have called him our very own Mr Darcy.
