Antique French Pink Gilt Tooled Leather Photo Frame By Mappin Bros London With Georgian Embossed Watercolor Painting
This is a very charming combination that is perfect for your English or French country house look. We see a luxurious pink nubuck photograph frame that was retailed by the infamous luxury retailers Mappin Brothers of 220 Regent Street, London. This French faded grandeur frame with its blush pink coloring and wonderful gilt tooled swags dates from the 1890's period. It has an oval glass aperture with gilt inner slip. It retains its original pink faux leather cloth backing and easel stand support. To the base of the easel stand are the gilt tooled retailers details.
To the interior we find a delightful and all original 1830's period hand painted botanical watercolor painting. This floral bouquet of a pink English rose with pansies and forget me nots is painted in the vacant center of an embossed sheet of paper. The very talented artist (most likely a lady) has signed with her initials of KPM just below the floral spray. This painting has been removed from an album as can be seen by the old animal glue marks/ spots.
Size: 7.75" (19.5 cm) by 6.25" (16 cm). Aperture 5" by 3 5/8".
Condition: Faded country house grandeur sums up this delight. As you can see from our images there are a few very old marks to the nubuck leather and some gentle rubbing to the edges but considering its age and rarity....I think we can forgive these slight blemishes.
