Vintage Britains Lead Animal Figures X 6 Cats And Dogs Home Farm Series Circa 1920
This interesting lot of miniature lead figures were produced in England by Britains Ltd, our figures date to circa 1920. Britains are most famous for the production of lead military figures, but they are also well known for producing miniature hunting and farm figures. Our figures are of hollow cast lead construction, a production method that was introduced by William Britain in 1893 in order to compete with the dominant German firms. Post World War One public attitude changed, toy soldiers became less popular as parents discouraged children from playing with toys associated with bloodshed. Due to changing demand Britains decided to produce more peaceful figures, namely farm and zoo animals. In the 1920s the Britains Model Home Farm series was put into production, from which series our miniature figures belong to.

These innocent miniature figures are from an unsettled period in British history, they were built in between two World Wars. They capture a point in time of peace, and demonstrate a move in public perception of War. They are excellent items for an adults doll house, or simply as display items in your cabinet of curiosities. Please note that these old lead figures are no longer suitable for children to play with.
For scale please see our last images where they are displayed alongside a standard size thimble and a pair of 4.25" mignonette bisque dolls.
