Antique Victorian Sterling Silver and Ruby Glass Scent Bottle Circa 1888 English
This decorative late Victorian globular glass scent bottle was produced in England in the last quarter of the 19th century, in the year 1888. This wonderfully graduated cranberry glass or ruby glass scent bottle features a superbly textured hobnail body with a faceted upper rim. The scent bottle has a Silver lid, and neck with the following hallmarks; W.O – (The makers mark of the silversmith William Oliver), Lion passant (Standard silver mark .925 Sterling), Letter “O” (Date letter for 1888) and the Anchor mark (The city mark for the Birmingham Assay office).
Measuring: Diameter 2.5” (6.5 cm). Height 2 7/8” (7 cm).
The scent bottle is in very good condition with no restoration. As with most scent bottles of this age there are a few tiny little fleabites to the glass and some very minor bumps to the top of the lid. There is an old crack to the inside of the silver collar. Sadly the inner lid cork stopper is missing. Please see our other Cranberry glass items; TA11408, TA11407 and TA11048.
This is a wonderful tactical little item that will display excellently. It’s an item of quality and is perfect for anyone who collects decorative Victorian antiques or is inspired by English Country House opulence.
