Regency Red Leather Sewing Box Sterling Silver Lock Circa 1800
A fine little red leather clad box from the early 19th century. This pretty wooden box was made during the reign of George III, circa 1800. It is covered in good quality red Morocco leather and has a blank silver cartouche to its lid and matching sterling silver lock plate. This lock is very unusual as it is a sliding button locking mechanism, just slide the button to the left to lock, to the right to open. Having original red leather cushioned interior to the lid, probable replaced marbled paper edge linings and crimson silk plush base lining. This little box is ready to house your favorite antique treasures.
Size: 4.5" (11.5 cm) by 2 5/8" (6.5 cm) by 1.75" (4.5 cm) tall.
Condition: Good and sound with general age wear and scuffing to the leather lid.
