Antique 19th Century French Sewing Etui Casket Purse Box With Original Gilt Crochet Tools Circa 1870
A wonderfully decorative antique French sewing etui from the last quarter of the 19th century. This Victorian green leather delight is the perfect addition to your needlework tool collection or indeed your antique bag or purse collection. Being of handbag shape with center opening compartment which houses original pin cushion lid and two end opening compartments (one with coin purse, the other containing teeny crochet tools). Please see a very similar example in the book Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries by Nerylla Taunton page 132 (see last image).
Size: Closed 5.5" (14 cm) by 2.5" (6 cm), with handles at full height 7.5" (19 cm)
Condition: The exterior is in very good to excellent condition with minimal tarnishing to the original gilt brass chain handles and gilt brass furniture. This etui opens and closes perfectly. The interior central compartment has suffered with silk shredding and missing tools. The end push button opening compartments are in better condition having retained all of their lovely gilt metal crochet tools. Some minor cracking to the leather end piece found to the underside.
