Antique Jack Russell Dog Watercolor Portrait Signed Evelyn Lina Beckles British Artist Born 1888
This wonderful original watercolor of a long haired Jack Russell terrier is by the British artist Evelyn Lina Beckles (b1888 – d 1986). This particular painting dates to the circa 1915 period. It is a handsome depiction and with its small size, it is a sought after example by this well documented artist. It is the perfect addition to your canine collection.
Evelyn Lina Beckles was born in Middlesex, England and studied at the Herkomer Art School. She married another talented artist called William Evans Linton in 1911. Evelyn Lina Beckles is most often associated with quality portraits of animals such as dogs, cats and horses. Our example is signed by the artist to the bottom right corner. Housed under glass in an attractive 19th century faux grained wood frame with a gilt inner slip and warm wonderful natural patina.
Measuring: Frame dimensions 8” (20.5 cm) by 10” (25.5 cm). Watercolor dimensions 5.5” (14 cm) by 7 5/8” (19.5 cm).
Condition: This item is in very good condition. The watercolor is crisp and in very good condition with only a few tiny areas of minor foxing to the paper. The frame is in good condition with a wonderful natural patina. There are some minor bumps and chips to the surface of the frame. Where the top and right side of the frame join there is a slight gap but the frame is perfectly stable. The frame has at some point been re-backed and is ready to hang
