19th Century Pickle Dish Leaf Shape Exotic Birds
This decorative little leaf shaped pickle dish was produced in England during the second half of 19th century. We see the exterior shape of a leaf with its gilded serrated edge. The highly decorative interior features an unusual dark blue ground with gilt motif decoration with a central Meissen or Worcester type exotic bird scene. The central scene has been transfer printed, and then embellished with hand enamelling to add the finer details. The veined leaf underside of the pickle dish has an impressed number 22 mark.
Measuring: 5.5” (14 cm) by 4.5” (11.5 cm). Height 1.5” (4 cm).
Condition: This item is in good condition for its age being free from restoration. The blue ground and gilding is bright and crisp, as is the central scene. There is a small stable crack running vertically approximately 6/8” (1.7 cm) as seen in our image.
This is the perfect piece to bring a touch of opulence to your existing blue and white collection.
