Antique Naive Folk Art Portrait Painting Of A Lady English School Circa 1840
This wonderful little side profile watercolor portrait of a school mistress type lady dates to the 19th century, circa 1840s. This young lady is wearing traditional early Victorian era clothing with the V shaped drop waist; we particularly like attention to detail paid by the artist to the lady’s hair, long watch chain and cameo. She very much reminds us of the Charlotte Bronte heroine Jane Eyre (see Mia Wasikowska playing the role of Jane in the 2011 film adaptation for identical hair and fashion). This endearing little watercolor has been painted on card and is housed behind glass in an attractive ebonised frame. The simple, uncomplicated style makes it the perfect addition to your antique naive, folk art collection.
Measuring: Frame 4.75” (12 cm) by 5.75” (14.5 cm). Watercolor 3.5” (9 cm) by 4 5/8” (12 cm).
This item is in good condition. There is some minor wear to the ebonized frame.
