This delightful little Regency watercolor upon card is English in origin and dates to the first quarter of the 19th century, circa 1822. Housed in a wonderful, of the period oval gilt beaded frame complete with original old bubbled glass and top hanger. This sweet Regency painting is ready to hang.
The very pretty sitter is beautifully hand painted and one can imagine that she has literally just stepped out from a fashion plate page of Ackermann's Repository for the Spring of 1822. She wears the latest fashion of short brown curled hair. She is wearing a simple Capote Bonnet with a light blue dress with high waist and large white lace chemisette. The watercolor has excellent detailing; we particularly admire how the accomplished artist has captured the fresh youthfulness of the young lady’s face. As with all period paintings the fashion detailing is always very informative.
Measuring: Frame 5 7/8” (15 cm) by 6 7/8” (17.5 cm). Frame thickness 1 2/8” (3 cm). Watercolor 4 3/8” (11.5 cm) by 5 4/8” (14 cm).
Condition: This original lemon gilt frame is in very good condition being free from touch ups or restoration. The watercolor is crisp and bright. However, please note that there is some foxing/ mottling to the paper ground.
This is an attractive little watercolor in a rich gilt frame, the perfect item for any Regency or Georgian inspired interior.
