This decorative cup is of “Bute Shape” and was produced by Coalport, in England during the first quarter of the 19th century, circa 1810. The cup features a large gilded loop handle and a decorative pattern in the traditional Imari palette and style. The pattern features extensive gilt decoration, a rich dark cobalt blue ground and wonderful hand painted details such as the pair of birds, the mischievous Lion and the single red butterfly. This cup is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The painting is crisp and bright. The gilding has some wear to the gilded rim and the gilded handle.
