This is a stunningly decorative French ruby red glass vide poche or footed trinket dish. This is one of the nicest examples that we have seen, the ruby red glass being a scarcer colorway. This quality little item would have been retailed in one of the upmarket boutiques of the Palais Royal shopping arcades of Paris.
We see a delightful fluted cranberry red glass dish with appealing beveled edges. This glass dish is held in place by two ormolu scrolls with six petal flowers to their center. Amazingly each buttery gilt flower petal depicts a tiny chased flower, including five petaled Pansies (the symbol of Palais Royal goods). Two smaller flower securer are seen to the center of the dish. A beaded ormolu collar holds the base of the dish. A further scrolling floral arrangement terminates at the scalloped ormolu roundel. This roundel is fixed to a rectangular alabaster base.
Size: Width at widest point 4.5 inch (11.5 cm) by height 3 1/8 inch (8 cm). Depth 2.75 inch (7 cm).
Condition: All original, there are two very small flea bite nicks to the bevel edge of the glass dish.
