Antique Palais Royal Cranberry Glass Trinket Dish Thimble Holder Ormolu Alabaster Circa 1860
Direct from France, we bring you this highly decorative Cranberry glass trinket dish, thimble holder or ring holder. This is one of the nicest examples that we have seen, the cranberry being a more scarce colorway. Of course this quality little trifle would have been retailed in one of the upmarket boutiques of the Palais Royal shopping arcades of Paris. This was THE place to be seen and one just HAD to purchase a souvenir of your afternoon's shopping expedition to this elite area of Paris.
Size: 3" tall by 4.5" at its widest and 1.75" deep.
We see a delightful fluted cranberry glass dish with appealing beveled edges. This glass dish is held in place by two ormolu scrolls with six petal flowers to their center. Amazingly each buttery gilded flower petal depicts a tiny chased flower, including five petaled Pansies (the symbol of Palais Royal goods). Two smaller flower securer are seen to the center of the dish. A beaded ormolu collar holds the base of the dish. A further scrolling floral arrangement terminates at the scalloped ormolu roundel. This roundel is fixed to a rectangular alabaster base.
Condition: All original including two very small flea bite nicks to the bevel edge of the dish. The alabaster base has darkened with age and has some very minor surface wear but nothing detrimental and certainly free of chips.
This is a stunning example. We see it dripping with your precious jewelry or perhaps showing off two of your most prized sewing thimbles!!
