19th Century Dog Puppy Painting Signed Watercolor Portrait H S Wells 1897 Folk Art
This is a very sweet original watercolor portrait of an owner's beloved puppy dog. This very cute chap is possibly a Beagle type hound dog. He has wonderful dappled spots, lovely big, floppy ears and THE most doleful eyes. Housed behind old bubbled 19th century glass and set within a period maple veneered frame with gilt slip. This original 19th century portrait has a folk art look about it and will work perfectly in any interior antique or modern. It is signed and dated bottom right H S Wells 1897.
Size: Framed 14.25" by 12.25". Visible watercolor 11.25" by 8.75"
Condition: This Victorian period watercolor painting is executed upon heavy watercolor paper or card and is fresh, bright and found in very good condition. There is some debris trapped under the old glass - we have not opened this picture. The gilt slip is dulled with age and has some cracking and old insect holes to the right side. The veneered frame is worn to the outer edges with much flaked veneer. However, as it is mainly on the very side/ outer edges not really visible upon display. For safe transit we would prefer to tape the back of this picture.
A wonderful subject of timeless appeal that is ready to hang.
