19th Century English Porcelain Cup Copeland And Garrett Circa 1840
This is an excellent example of a fine mid-19th century English porcelain cup. This decorative Rococo design cup was produced by Copeland and Garrett in England, circa 1840. The cup features sturdy moulded feet with moulded leaves and scrolls and a complex and ornate handle. The shape of the cup is referred to as “Louis Embossed” by the English antique cup aficionado Michael Berthoud. The pattern features extensive gilt decoration, a large pink rose and two smaller pretty blue flowers. The base of the cup is marked with the “Copeland and Garrett Felspar Porcelain Late Spode” mark.
Measuring: Diameter with handle 3 7/8” (10 cm). Diameter without handle 3” (7.5 cm). Height 2.75” (7 cm).
This cup is in good condition. The hand painted design is crisp. The gilding is rich with little wear. There is a small thin hairline to the rim of the cup 0.5” (1.5 cm) that is extremely hard to see although we have tried to photograph it for you..
