This is an excellent example of a rare and unusual piece of Hochst Faience Porcelain. The makers impressed gold marks dates this piece to the mid-18th century circa 1750. Hochst produced faience between 1746-1760, after this date they produced mainly porcelain. We are yet to find a similar example of this shape.

This fine German twin handled plate features naturalistic hand painted decoration in the form of wonderful floral sprays/ deutsche blumen surrounded by tiny little insects that are synonymous with Hochst pieces (of course inspired by the decoration of 1740's period Meissen porcelains). This plate also features two hand painted Rococo scenes; one scene featuring a young man fishing with a female companion resting on the bank of the river. The other scene features a young man and woman collecting sticks near the river. We particularly like the gilt decorated twin strap handles with the individual grapes and vine leaves at their base, they are finely detailed and produced to a very high quality. The underside of this plate features the Höchst gilt impressed wheel below the electoral hat.

Measuring: Diameter 7 3/8” (19 cm), height 7/8” (2.5 cm).

Condition: This item is in very good condition for its vast age. The hand painted design is crisp and is in excellent condition. The gilding is bright and is in excellent condition. There is natural crazing to the glaze throughout. One line to the glaze seen at 12 o'clock above the floral spray is slightly darker but please be assured that this is not a crack or hairline. There is a tiny historic chip to the foot rim. The painted electoral hat mark is worn but still visible.

The attention to detail on this early piece of German porcelain is very impressive, this would make an excellent display piece for anyone who collects 18th century porcelain or pottery.
