A beautiful 18th century French, Louis XVI era enamel over copper etui with chased silver frame. This gorgeous 1780's example although having a broken hinge, still retains its French elegance as this ancient survivor displays beautifully as the lid stays on when upright.
This tall and slender tapering etui once held an ivory card, pencil etc for listing the dances and the names of your intended dance partners. The white enamel over copper case is beautifully hand enamelled with flowers and birds. Each side also heavily embellished with high karat gilt cartouches stating Souvenir D'Amite - A Souvenir of Friendship. Each side also has high karat gilt flowers and trophies of love, musical instruments etc.
Size: 3.25" (8.5 cm) tall by 2" (5 cm)wide at the top tapering to 1.75" (4.5 cm) wide at the base, 6/16" (1 cm) deep.
Condition: The hinge is broken, the lid entirely detaches from the body - see images. The push button opener is missing. We have not cleaned the chased frame, there are two teeny French poincon hallmarks to the frame. Vertical damage to the enamel under the vacant button area. A few very old cracks to the enamel. Some wear to the raised gilt lettering.
