Antique 19th Century Miniature Watercolor Portrait English Named Dated Robert Johnson 1830
This is a most charming original watercolor to adorn your wall. We see a full length portrait of an 1830's period attired gentleman looking very Dickensian, with more than a passing subsidiarity to Charles Dickens. His wonderful hair style, deep fronted waistcoat, tight waisted mourning coat with broad shoulders and puffed sleeves and narrow trousers were all highly fashionable at this time. Named and dated to the rear of the backing board and frame, Robert Johnson 1830 in pen. Housed in an original period frame of mellow, honey hue wood with gilt slip and wonderful old bubbled glass. This fine little artwork is sure to charm and delight.
Size: Frame 8.75" by 6.75". Visible watercolor upon wove paper 5.5" by 3 3/8".
Condition: Is very good. The frame has natural age wear and a gorgeous warm coloring. The watercolor has retained good, vibrant coloring but you will notice that it was trimmed to fit the inner aperture of this frame and one can just see the trimmed edge to the far right. There is very minor foxing to the watercolor background as one would expect with an original from this period. We have not opened the rear to inspect the watercolor out of the frame.
A good original piece to enhance your existing collection of miniatures.
