Vintage Miniature Silver Gilt Replica Bohemian Crown Jewels All Hallmarked TINY For Dolls House 1940s
You know us, we usually lean towards pre 1830 period antiques BUT we just had to own this delicious little treasure and yes, it is treasure indeed - Royal treasure. These are absolutely TEENY miniature works of art that were crafted by Bohemian jewelry artisans during the late 1940's. The three treasures depict the Bohemian Coronation Crown, Scepter and Orb. Each tiny piece was expertly crafted from solid silver (900) with high karat gold gilding.....just look at the orb with the chased detailing!! Remarkable.......
This is a complete miniature replica set of the Bohemian Crown Jewels. Here is a brief history of the real, life size set. The real ones are permanently held in the Crown Chamber of Prague Castle. The Crown Chamber is the least accessible part of the castle, the Coronation Jewels are held in an iron safe behind a door that requires all seven keys to open it. There are seven holders of the keys; they are the President, the Prime minister, the Prague Archbishop, the Chairman of the House of Deputies, the Chairman of the Senate, the Dean of the Metropolitan Chapter of St Vitus Cathedral and the Lord Mayor of Prague. The oldest of the Crown Jewels is the Crown of Saint Wenceslas of Bohemia which is named after and dedicated to the Duke and Patron Saint Wenceslas. It was made for the Coronation of King Charles IV in 1347 and is wrought of very pure 21-22 carat gold. The Crown is decorated with 19 sapphires, 44 spinels, 1 ruby, 30 emeralds and 20 pearls. The golden Royal Apple and Royal Scepter were made in first half of the 16th century, most likely in the reign of Ferdinand I who was crowned King of Bohemia in 1526. The Royal Apple and Royal Scepter are both made from 18 carat gold and both many precious stones like the older Crown. The Crown Jewels are not exhibited all year; they are permanently kept in Prague Castle and are not exhibited elsewhere. They are exhibited at the castle on special occasions which has more recently been every 5 years. This vintage miniature version of the Bohemian Crown Jewels was made in the 1940s in Czechoslovakia by the high quality jewelers Soluna Praha . Each tiny piece is made from silver and then gold plated with colored enamel as the jewels. The crown features the Czechoslovakian hallmark of the goats head over the number 3 on the crown which is for silver fineness .900; it also features a hallmark of the number 900 and the initials S2. The orb features the hallmark S2 and the goats head over the number 3 which is in the center of the cross at the top of the orb. The scepter is hallmarked with the goats head over the number 3, S2 and .900.
Measuring: Orb length 6/9” (21 mm). Scepter length 2 1/8” (66 mm). Crown inner diameter 6/8” (20 mm). Shown with a standard sized thimble and 22 karat gold wedding band UK Size N, USA size 6 1/2 for scale.
