Antique Circa 1815 Chamberlain Worcester Cup Stormont Pattern Baden Shape
This is a wonderful example of an unusual Chamberlain Worcester coffee cup from the Regency era. This unusual shape of coffee cup is known as the Bucket Shape” or the “Baden Shape” and was produced circa 1815. The cup features slightly concave sides with a delicate scroll handle and extensive gilded decoration. This gilt stylized seaweed pattern is known as the “Stormont Pattern” and was produced in a variety of attractive ground colors, of which this cornflower blue is particularly attractive. The cup is unmarked on the base, however this is a well-known Chamberlain's shape and pattern. See page 49 of Berthoud's Anthology Of British Cups for a Chamberlain porringer shape cup in this design.
Measuring: Height 2 ¾”. Base diameter 2 ¼”. Total Width including handle 3 ¾”.
The cup is in very good condition with no cracks or restoration. There is a tiny shallow pinhead size chip to the rim 2 mm. The gilding on the side and handle of the cup is in very good condition. There is some minor wear to the gilding on the rim of the cup. Very minor kiln grit on the foot rim as to be expected with most porcelain of this era.
A top quality cup in a stunning cornflower blue color made by one of England finest manufacturers.
