Georgian Silkwork Embroidery English Circa 1800
This is a charming silk needlework from the very crossover of the 19th century. Wrought in England this small silkwork is the perfect size for any home. The simple floral design with the very unusual inner embroidered lozenge border make this a superb needlework to compliment your early naive, folk art collection.
Size: Frame 9.75" by 8 3/8". Visible silkwork 7.25" by just under 6"
Housed in its original stained pine frame with superb original dry patination. It also retains its original bubbled glass and top suspension loop.
Condition of the silk ground is excellent being free from rips, tears or perishing. The colors are good and just a little muted with age as one would expect. If we had to be picky we would draw your attention to rippling in the silk ground, most likely where the silk has stretched over the centuries upon the stretcher. There is a wonderful newspaper backing which is fascinating to read, circa 1830. The sides have been re taped in the recent past.
A good, genuine piece for the antique purist.
