Georgian Gilt Bronze Statue Circa 1830 Georgian Grand Tour
Direct from France is this early little gilt bronze figure dating to the 1820 to 1830 period. This lovely chap would have been purchased whilst on a Grand Tour of Europe. Of small proportions; it is really just the most perfect size to display anywhere in your home. The figure depicts a classical putti who is draped or semi clad in a flowing toga. He stands holding a brimming basket of ripened fruit upon his head (some obvious classical symbolism here).
Size: 7" tall, base 2.25" square. Weight 1 lb 13 oz or 845 g.
This is a very old little bronze with plenty of patina to the soft buttery gilding through caressing and cleaning. You will notice that he is wonderfully tactile to hold even though his nose has worn smooth. He historically had a plaster weight inserted base for extra stability that has turned to powder over the centuries.
A delicious French statue for your boudoir. Doesn't he look superb displayed with similar period fine English porcelain..........
