Antique 19th Century Black Forest Castle Top Clock by Junghans Handsome Gothic Design Circa 1890 Non Working

This non working decorative gothic mantle clock was produced by Junghans in the Black Forest in Germany during the late 19th century, circa 1890. This wooden clock is modeled as a gothic castle and is complete with its original turret, castellated detailing and handsome brass furniture. The clock features the famous Junghans eight pointed cog mark on the face and on the movement.

Unusually, on the paper face we find the logo for the French firm Manufrance. The logo reads “Armes Et Cycles Manufacture Francaise Saint Etienne”. Manufrance was a famous and iconic French business based in Etienne, it was established in 1887. The large factory produced shotguns, rifles, revolvers, bicycles and sewing machines etc. Manufrance was France’s first mail order company with its first catalogue available from 1885. We have not found another example like this with the Manufrance logo.

Measuring: Height 12” (30.5 cm). Base 6 7/8” (17.5 cm) by 4.5” (11.5 cm).

Condition: The clock it is complete with all its original fittings and keys. We are selling the clock as a decorative item only as it is in NON-working order, the alarm bell working but the clock mechanism possibly over wound as resistance when winding is attempted. The clock is complete with key. There are some very minor surface marks to the outer facing side of the door and two minor impressed pencil marks to the interior facing side of the door. There is some minor wear to the paper clock face and two historic glue marks to two of wooden details above the clock face.

A wonderfully decorative item for a Gothic revival/ arts and crafts collector.
