Georgian Foiled Garnet Lace Pin Circa 1820s
This is a most ravishing example...the brilliance and glow of the four foil backed garnets is quite simply to be marveled at. The C or crescent shape is very unusual and we wonder if it possibly represented a anatomical star formation.
This small little brooch would have once adorned a fine lace collar or fichu. But it would have been no ordinary owner as these four stones are luxury beyond luxury. Claw set and closed back within a 15 K setting, each oval garnet with its large octagonal table GLOWS. These four garnets have a cerise/ pinky hue rather than a deep blood red hue. The original tube hinge, C clasp and later safety chain all work beautifully.
Size: 1.25" Weight 3.0 grams
Condition - This is an antique item of 200 year old jewelry which has some signs of age. The stones have good clarity and refraction, all free of chips but two of the stones have minor surface scratches to their tables ( seen in our high magnification images).
This is one of the prettiest, most alluring foiled garnet pieces that we have retailed.
